Angers with the family: activities, visits and where to stay with children
Angers with children
A guide to a successful family weekend
Angers is a great city to visit with children—as long as you know what to suggest!
There is the château and its family activity booklet, Terra Botanica and its plant-themed park, the playground below the ramparts and cycling along the banks of the Maine. And then there is the Apocalypse Tapestry, which children often describe as a ‘really huge medieval monster comic’—not entirely wrong. 🙂

Planning a family weekend
Day 1 – the centre on foot. Start at the château, directly opposite the apartment: its ramparts and 17 towers are sure to impress children, and the gardens are easy to explore with a pushchair. After lunch, head down to the Maine for a waterside stroll, then walk up Montée Saint-Maurice to the cathedral and its playground.
Day 2 – the great outdoors. Spend half a day at Terra Botanica, or hire bikes and follow the flat, safe route along the Maine to Bouchemaine. Older children may also enjoy Île Saint-Aubin, reached by a small seasonal ferry.

When to visit with the family
Spring and early summer are ideal for parks and walks. In December, the Soleils d’Hiver illuminations transform the town centre and are a hit with children. During school holidays, book early: the apartment fills quickly.
