A romantic weekend in Angers
A romantic weekend in Angers – the perfect apartment for a couples’ stay
Angers regularly features in rankings of France’s most romantic cities, and with good reason.
The medieval château, the Maine quays at sunset, the cobbled lanes of the Doutre quarter and riverside restaurants all set the scene.
There is something gently timeless about this city, making it perfect for a couples’ break.
From the apartment, enjoy something rare: a view of Château d’Angers directly from your sofa.
Wake to medieval towers in the soft morning light. In the evening, watch the château gradually light up from your window.
It is what guests mention first in their reviews, and hard to describe until you have experienced it.
The bedroom is quiet, overlooking an inner courtyard. The decor is romantic without being over the top, and the quays and waterside terraces are just a two-minute walk away.

What the apartment offers for a romantic weekend: direct views of Château d’Angers from the living room; a quiet bedroom with carefully chosen decor and fairy lights; a memory-foam mattress; a private courtyard; 24-hour self check-in with no fixed arrival time; a fully equipped kitchenette for a romantic dinner; fibre broadband for your playlist and a little escape from the world; and free parking 200 metres away, making arrival by train or car easy.

A sample romantic weekend in Angers (Friday evening to Sunday)
Friday evening: arrive and settle in. Have dinner on the Maine quays—the Nid du Héron for a guinguette-style terrace, or the Théâtre du Quai restaurant for river views. Enjoy a peaceful night and watch the château light up from the living room.
Saturday morning: coffee on the quays or by the château at Chez Pont Pont. Pick up an impromptu breakfast at the Saturday market on Rue de la Madeleine. Visit Château d’Angers (allow two hours; a guided tour of the Apocalypse Tapestry is recommended). Have lunch in the historic centre’s lanes, near Place Sainte-Croix.
Saturday afternoon: walk along Promenade du Bout du Monde, a little-known, free viewpoint over the Maine below the château and one of Angers’ finest panoramas. Explore the Doutre quarter’s galleries and craft shops, then enjoy dinner at an excellent local restaurant.
Sunday: brunch or breakfast from a neighbourhood bakery. Cycle along the Maine towards Bouchemaine (10 km through beautiful Loire scenery). Depart at your leisure before 11 am.

Angers, a romantic city – why it works
Angers is neither Paris nor Venice. It is a human-scale city where you can walk without crowds, find a terrace seat without waiting and visit a UNESCO-listed monument with hardly any queue outside July and August. That is precisely what makes it romantic for a weekend: little overtourism, a high quality of life and exceptional heritage within walking distance of your apartment.
