Lac de Maine is Angers' big leisure and nature area, about 3 km west of the centre. The park covers 220 hectares, 110 of them water: there is a beach with lifeguards in summer, a watersports centre, a path looping the lake, playgrounds and an environment centre. From Mon Château Angers it is about ten minutes by bike or a short bus ride: a green break without getting in the car.
Things to do at the lake
- Swimming: a dedicated beach, supervised during the summer season. Check the hours and water-quality notices on site.
- Watersports: depending on the season, the watersports centre offers sailing, paddleboarding, canoeing or pedalos, to hire or as lessons.
- Walking and cycling: a 5.5 km path loops around the lake, one to two hours on foot at an easy pace — ideal for walking, running or family rides.
- The landmark: the lake's pyramid, opened in 1978, is visible across the whole plain and guides you around the park.
- Nature: the park and its wetlands host many birds; the Maison de l'environnement runs exhibitions and activities.
- Relaxing: lawns, picnic areas and children's playgrounds.

Getting there without a car
